February 9, 2018 • Solo and Ensemble Festival • Final Details
Dear Chorus Parents,
Congratulations to your children! They have been working hard on their solo literature, and their performance date is almost at hand. Here are last minute details, schedules, and directions you need.
All singers should have their songs completely memorizedwhen they come to work with their accompanist.
DRESS FOR THE EVENT:
Please dress “up” for the event. Cardinals, wear your chorus uniform. Solo, wear your uniform or something dressy. I suggest clothes that would be appropriate for attending a wedding: shirt and tie, slacks, dress shoes and socks, blouse and slacks or skirt, or a dress. Keep your hair out of your face so you can be seen when you sing. Remember, looking good helps you feel good too!
Each participant warms up for 15 minutes, then sings and receives comments for 15 minutes. When you are done, you may leave, I will get ratings via the MSVMA website. All students will receive a certificate, and if you achieve a rating of ‘I’ or ‘II’, you will receive a medal (MR. MARTIN WILL PAY). A cafeteria will be open for you to purchase food and drinks while you are waiting before or after your performance.
Drinks, snacks, donuts, and pizza (at lunch time) are available for purchase at the site. If you will need to eat lunch, plan to bring about $5 per meal.
There is a school bus going to and from Monroe Middle School, bringing the Cardinal Singers. Parents are welcome to ride, if they’ve filed a chaperone background check form with the school board. The bus will leave West at 7am, and leave Monroe 10:15, arriving at West at about 11am.Mr. Martin will ride the bus both ways, and parents are invited to also come. Students need to be picked up promptly at 11 at West.
The directions to the Monroe Middle School in Monroe are included with this letter. They begin at West Middle School. Allow 40 minutes for travel, and plan to arrive at least30 minutes before your performance time. Mr. Martin return to the event at 2:30-5:30. If you don’t see him right away, it’s because he’s warming up a singer or watching them perform. Follow your schedule and he’ll catch up with you!

Those students who ordered items from our Century Resources fundraiser will get them tomorrow, Wednesday December 19. The items will arrive by 1:30pm, and will be distributed to students during our 6th hour. Those who have large orders (10+ items) should arrange to be picked up from school on Wednesday. If your customers ordered online with credit cards, the items will be delivered directly to your them, and you will receive profit from the sales.
Please deliver your items promptly and be sure to thank your customers for their support. Remind them that if they're not satisfied for any reason, they can get a full refund without returning their item by calling the 800 number on the product package.
All profits will be calculated once the paperwork is received with the delivery, and you'll be able to subtract profit from your Cedar Point trip cost when the paperwork comes home in January.
Congratulations on a successful fundraiser!
On Tuesday, December 11 and Wednesday, December 12th, the West Chorus performed their 2018 Holiday concert. The Tuesday night performance was hosted at the beautiful Wayne County Community College District Heinz C. Prechter Education and Performing Arts Center, and we really appreciated the beautiful stage and professional support staff. The choirs performed music from holiday favorites including Santa Claus is Coming To Town, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, In The Bleak Midwinter, The Hallelujah Chorus, John Lennon's Happy Xmas (War is Over), and songs from The Sound of Music. Congratulations to our singers for an excellent performance!
Parents who wish to purchase a DVD copy of the performance, send $10 cash to Mr. Martin by Wednesday, December 19.
