On Friday, March 22, members of the chorus who turned in permission forms will be traveling to the Detroit Opera House to see the Michigan Opera Theater Children's Chorus production of "The Secret World of Og." The students will leave West at about 9:30, arrive at the DOH about 10. We will have a snack for kids on the bus. The show starts at 11, and is about 65 minutes long. Schools are excused bus-by-bus, and this takes some time, so we will return to West at about 1pm. The cafeteria is then serving lunch to all students (It's Mancino's pizza day), or students may bring their bagged lunch to the cafeteria. They will return to class after eating.
No cell phones may be brought on the trip (leave in lockers) and they will be taken if they are seen. In the Opera House, no food or drink is allowed. Audience behavior should include clapping or yelling "BRAVO," keeping feet off chairs, remaining quiet during the show, staying with your bus group at all times, and being kind, courteous, and showing gratitude at all times.
The field trip is made possible by a grant from donors to the Michigan Opera Theater, and includes 175 student tickets as well as busses to transport students to and from school - in other words, thousands of dollars!
Students interested in auditioning to be a part of next year's MOTCC should contact Mr. Martin for audition details, which I'll publish at WestChorus.com when they're available.
